Thread: STS on Eclipse 3.6 - Helios

Default STS on Eclipse 3.6 - Helios

    Hi,

Before I go down a hopeless path of frustration I figured I would ask first if there anyone who has had either a positive or negative experience with installing STS into Eclipse (Helios) 3.6 M6?

    Thanks,
    Joel

    Hi Joel,

STS is not yet compatible with Eclipse 3.6, so please don't try to install it.

This is essentially due to the fact that some of STS' dependencies (AJDT and Groovy-Eclipse) are not yet available for Eclipse 3.6.

We expect that be compatible with 3.6 very soon.

    Hi Christian,

Thanks for letting me know and saving me the grief. I do know that it is difficult to set expectations on availability, but I am going to ask you in any case ;-) My situation is that I am working on an Eclipse Foundation project ORMF. We are in the process of ramping up the architecture which includes EMF 2.6 and CDO 3.0 which require Helios. We are also dependent on Spring DM for OSGi on the server side and Maven/Tycho for the build. These make STS an important tool. It is a non trivial environment to set up as long as CDO and EMF are still moving targets (we are still actually working off HEAD), so it really is less than desirable to hack temporary environments only to have to recreate it all when STS is Helios ready. It all comes down to timing if I choose to wait or bite the bullet. Your guidance on availability would be invaluable.

    Thanks,
    Joel

I share your grief Joel. I've also had some bad experiences with trying to integrate it on 3.6. It just wasn't worth the hassle in our case and we sticked with Galileo for the time being.

    Hi,

I'm happy to let you guys know that as of today's nightly build STS supports Eclipse 3.6 M6 and latest integration builds. We were able to implement all required changes.

The 3.6 compatible version of STS is available from the known 3.5 update sites.

    Cheers, Christian

    Hi Christian,

Started to give this a go today, but have ran into consistent problems.

Using the http://www.springsource.com/update/e3.5 update site I am trying to install into Helios M6 jee. I have cut back to just trying to install Core/dm, Core/Spring IDE and Core/STS. This ends up with the following failure:

    Code:
Cannot complete the install because of a conflicting dependency.

It appears to me that Jira 3.4.0 is not compatible, but that is what comes with 3.6 jee.

Would it be possible at this stage for you folks to specify a recipe for a successful install. Along the lines of start with this Eclipse build, add these third party feature/plugins, the select these features from the STS update site?

    Thanks,
    Joel
