    where can I find(and download) the STS self-extracting shell script? Currently there is no link in this text and I'm here for the first time.

    you can find the Linux downloads on http://www.springsource.com/products/eclipse-downloads.

    Watch out on the right for Linux and Linux 64bit STS downloads.
