Thread: Restrict Telnet Access to Local Network

Question Restrict Telnet Access to Local Network

Is there any way to restrict access to the dm server's telnet to only computers on the same network as the server?

A little more clarity to Kieran's post.

We have servers which have a public and private NIC. We would like the telnet server to only attach to the private NIC. This functionality is pretty common for things like mysql, pop servers, etc.

Is this possible with dmServer? Or do we need to manually manage that restriction on the server instead?

Yes, I agree it is a pretty common requirement, unfortunately, the only thing you can specify is port. It was only meant to be handy while investigating the state of the system, not necessarily for management of the system.
JMX options are a bit more flexible to address these concerns although not as straight forward. Do you have any specific use case?
There is actually JIRA request already for this:

We're just starting to deploy dm server, and assumed we would want telnet, sounds like that is not what you guys expect.

We have disabled it for now. If it becomes clear it would be handy, I will update the JIRA.

    thanks

    somewhat related...

Is it possible to get the AJP/1.3 connector to listen on a particular NIC? Or does this also have to be on all?

    thanks.
