HTTP + XML w/ no SOAP
I'm new to Spring WS and evaluating it for use in a project. I have a fairly simple XML protocol between client and server and see XML over HTTP as a sufficient approach. Here are some questions:
- is Spring WS appropriate for building on? That is, is it overkill, ill-suited, or just right?
- does Spring WS necessitate or imply a SOAP-based protocol? That is, would I want to use it for a non-SOAP protocol?
- if I go with Spring MVC instead, are their pieces from Spring WS I might want to leverage, such as any of the XML parsers? any others?
- are there any examples of what I'm trying to do? The (very good) tutorial on the Spring WS web site implies SOAP, so I'm not sure if it is relevant to my case.
Thank you in advance for your advice.
