NewBie Is Spring WS the right choice

Hi,

I'm working on a system that is using CORBA,ODBC and is written C++.
We started developing a new System, but I don't want to use CORBA anymore.
So the new system will use JAVA with SOAP and JDBC(hibernate).
The clients are Macintosh(cocao) clients and using gsoap.
The big problem is what is the best solutions, there are a lot options to build the server.
Spring WS is totally new for me, is this the best solution. Maybe it is better to use XFire, Xerces.
Can anyone help me and maybe some sites with tutorials, books?
