Default WebMacro support for Spring coming soon

    Hi,

This is just to let you know that the WebMacro templating language - the forerunner to Velocity that arguably has more attractive syntax - will soon be released with support for Spring MVC.

The future release will also include a JSP taglib enabling people who work in "JSP shops" to use WebMacro templates within their JSPs to help reduce the horror of using JSP.

This code is in development and we anticipate it making it into WebMacro 2.1 - following a WebMacro 2.0 final release which is imminent.

Once our Spring integration code is mature would it be possible to contribute it to the Spring views?

Interesting. The first version of the code that became Spring, published in Expert One-on-One J2EE Design and Development had WebMacro support.

I think shipping the support in WebMacro probably makes more sense. Not because I consider WebMacro less important than the view technologies that Spring supports, but because we need to be careful not to bloat the Spring distribution with lots of binaries and code to integrate with an ever-increasing set of products.

Alternatively, the code could go in Spring Modules.
