Problem in installing the STS with the eclipse marketplac

Hi.

i'm working with eclipse indigo (3.7).

I installed the STS (Spring Tool Suite) with the eclipse marketplace, and nothing seems to changed (after all the load and restart), i cant see the STS dashboard, and when i go to:

help -> about eclipse,

i don't see any sign for STS (but all my other installations are showed).

when i go to the eclipse marketplace and search for STS (for eclipse 3.7), it is showing me that it is installed!

I tried the solution of going to: window->preferences-> spring , and there checking the dashboard, but in my case there is no such an option there..

This is very weird, suggestions anyone?

Hey!

So there was no error message coming up during the installation itself (complaining about missing resources or so)? If you open the welcome screen, there is nothing showing up for Spring tooling and AspectJ tooling?

I tried this with a vanilla Eclipse JEE Indigo SR2 installation and it works in general, so I expect a conflict with another installed extension maybe.

Can you open up a console view, switch to "OSGi Host Console" and type in "ss" for "short status"?
Maybe there are some bundles in the state of just "INSTALLED" instead of something else? Can you check that?

It looks like it is coming from a missing bundle "org.eclipse.mylyn.commons.core". Do you see a bundle with that name in the list from the "ss" command? If yes, in what state is it?

In the end, it looks like the installation process somehow corrupted your installation (for unknown reasons). Therefore I guess you will need a fresh install... I would recommend to start with a fresh STS 3.1.0.RELEASE based on Eclipse 3.8 and install extensions into that as needed. I am sorry, but I think that will be the best solution for this problem...

It looks like it is coming from a missing bundle "org.eclipse.mylyn.commons.core". Do you see a bundle with that name in the list from the "ss" command? If yes, in what state is it?

In the end, it looks like the installation process somehow corrupted your installation (for unknown reasons). Therefore I guess you will need a fresh install... I would recommend to start with a fresh STS 3.1.0.RELEASE based on Eclipse 3.8 and install extensions into that as needed. I am sorry, but I think that will be the best solution for this problem...

I installed Eclipse Juno, and the problem solved (maybe i did made a bad installation in indigo along the way).

After installing STS successefuly on Juno, i opened a new MVC project, fixed the errors in the sample STS project by adding all the required spring jars, and now there are 2 problems:

1. I can't get the option: "Run on server" (altough i did set a tomcat's server in the workspace).

2. With every step i make (clean, delete etc') i'm getting the follwing error:

Errors occurred during the build.
Errors running builder 'Faceted Project Validation Builder' on project 'First_STS_Project'.
Could not initialize class org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.project.facet.IJ2EEFacetConst ants
Errors running builder 'Validation' on project 'First_STS_Project'.
org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.project.facet.IJ2EEFacetConst ants

This is not a local problem on my specific workspace, because i getting the same error in my second PC as well.

Hey!

In case you install STS into an existing Eclipse Juno, you should also install the Maven Integration for Eclipse from the Juno repository (maybe along with the m2e-wtp addition that you can get from the Eclipse Marketplace afterwards). The Spring template projects are all using Maven and the integration into Eclipse to work properly.

The other thing looks like something from the Webtools project is missing. Did you use Eclipse Juno JEE as base or just the Eclipse Juno SDK?

You could avoid all this by using one of our preconfigured downloads for STS from here:

Go to "Download" and you can grab a ready-to-use distribution that contains everything you need and works out-of-the-box. The distribution is also based on Eclipse Juno (and I would recommend to use the version that is based on Eclipse 3.8 for best performance and stability). It is a full Eclipse JEE distribution with all the necessary extensions already installed and I would strongly recommend to go this way to avoid all the installation work. It is much easier.
