"Could not create the Java virtual machine"

I can't start STS right now due to the error. According to this article (http://javahowto.blogspot.com/2006/0...java-heap.html), it is caused by memory setting in the sts.ini file. The problem for me is that I haven't changed the file. I could start up STS with the same memory setting. I haven't changed any hardware neither. I ran a memory fragmentation program yesterday. I don't know whether it is a cause or not.

Sounds strange, but what actually happens when you change the memory settings in sts.ini file to lower values?
