Fails: update SpringSource Tool Suite 3.0.0.201207050905-M3-e37 (OsX 10.6, STS 2.9.2)

I am running STS version 2.9.2.Release (Build Id: 201205071000) on Max OsX 10.6.8 with Java version 1.6.0_33.
When I start STS it offers an update "SpringSource Tool Suite 3.0.0.201207050905-M3-e37". This update is offered with the automatic pop-up 'notification of updates' and when I run the ckeck for available updates.
When I run the update my STS application vanishes, rendering the suite useless. All the other updates worked, but this one fails. I tried it three time, just in case. No obvious error messages or log messages (but I'm not sure that I looked everywhere I should have). Obviously, this problem is reproducible. Fortunately, I run TimeMachine backup hourly, and was able to recover quickly. But, I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Does anyone know how I might collect more information on what might be wrong: start from the command line? How? with flags? what? where are the logs? is there a log4j configuration that I might revise? if so, how? etc.

Hey!

Can you please check whether you have the milestone update site installed in your STS 2.9.2? If so, please deactivate that and the popup should go not appear again. You can check for the used update sites in Preferences -> Update/Install -> Available Update Sites.

Updating from STS 2.9.2 to any 3.0.0 version is not possible and will not be offered automatically. It is recommended to start with a fresh installation of STS 3.0.0 once that is available as a final release (planned for next week).

The M3 milestone build of STS has still the same product IDs on the update site, so that the "Check for Updates" from within STS detects that as an available update. This will not be the case anymore for the final release. Starting from STS 3.0.0.RELEASE you will be save again to update from release, milestone and snapshot update sites automatically.
