Validate before rendering view

Can someone provide some guidance on how I can cause validation to occur on entry to a view state before rendering the view. Eg for the 2nd time a user enters a page and the form is already mostly populated?

I am using spring webflow 2. I know that in a view state normally this happens automatically when leaving the view state but how do I trigger it explicitly on entry into the view state
