    Default STS 2.8.1 released

    Dear Spring Community,

    I am happy to announce the newest release 2.8.1 of the SpringSource Tool Suite (STS).

    Many of our users were facing severe problems with the upgrade of the Maven Integration for Eclipse to m2e 1.0 that we proposed with STS 2.8.0. We have listened very carefully to your feedback and we apologize for this inconvenience. As a result, we are shipping this new maintenance release 2.8.1 of the SpringSource Tool Suite to you.

    STS 2.8.1 is now compatible with the new Maven Integration as well as the old one. So updating your existing STS 2.7 or 2.8 version to STS 2.8.1 doesn't force you to also update the Maven Integration. Instead you can switch to the new Maven integration whenever you want - and even switch back to the old integration, if the new one doesn't work out for you. We tried to automate this up- and downgrading of the Maven Integration as much as possible with two new items on the Dashboard. Please find more details in the New & Noteworthy and the updated m2e FAQ forum post.

    The ready-to-use packages are, as usual, on the STS download pages. They contain the new m2e 1.0 version, but you can easily switch them back to m2eclipse 0.12 using the Dashboard items, if you like.

    Regards,
    Martin

    I switched back successfully to m2eclipse 0.12 following the procedure outlined but the compatible m2eclpse-wtp extension was missing and I could not start war projects anymore. I fixed this adding http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/sites/m2e-extras in the update sites and downloading it from there.

    Default Problem Starting tc Server Dev Edition

    I'm basically reposting from the 2.8.0 release thread, modifying it for 2.8.1. I hoped the issue would be cleared up in 2.8.1, but it's still an issue for me.

    ================================================== ==========

    I did a fresh install of STS 2.8.1 on a WinXP Pro SP3 32-bit system. The installation was done in C:\springsource\sts-2.8.1.RELEASE.

    Any server I try to start in it gives me the message: "Could not load the Tomcat server configuration at \Servers\VMware vFabric tc Server v2.5, v2.6 at localhost-config. The configuration may be corrupt or incomplete.
    Could not load the Tomcat server configuration at \Servers\VMware vFabric tc Server v2.5, v2.6 at localhost-config. The configuration may be corrupt or incomplete."

    Scanning the message boards, I saw this issue back in the 2.5.x series but did not see a definitive solution.

    I checked the Issue Tracker as well but didn't see anyone else with this issue for 2.8.1.

    Is there a workaround?

    What happens when you are creating a new tc Server instance using STS?

    "Update Site Installation" is not smooth, i try both release and milestone update site, but cannot complete the installation, always some errors similar to the following, need some help:
    Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
    Software being installed: SpringSource Tool Suite Grails Support 2.8.0.201109211000-M2 (com.springsource.sts.grails.feature.group 2.8.0.201109211000-M2)

    Hi!

    Does the message tells you a bit more about what is actually missing? Don't see that from your snippet. Can you post the complete error message?

    As a workaround, you can go the STS download site at springsource.com, download the update site, and use that locally. This should avoid problems with the network, firewalls and/or proxies that cause trouble from time to time.

    @mteodori, thanks for the feedback.

    Due to the way that the m2e update sites are configured, ensuring that the old WTP feature is automatically installed is not trivial. We may change this in the future.
