Exclamation Spring STS IDE won't launch after weeks of regular use.

This has happened to me twice so far. I and my entire Dev team all use the STS IDE for our development. We have many different machine type and OS usage, throughout the team, but as far as I know I am the only developer experiencing this problem.

Yesterday, I went to launch STS, and the splash screen comes up as normal, but then disappears. There is no message, STS does not launch and I have no idea why. Every time I try to lauch the IDE it does the same thing and I cannot get it to start. This happened to me over a month ago, but at the time I decided to have my laptop re-imaged instead of trouble shooting the issue, because I really need to continue working. The re-image allowed me to re-install on a fresh machine and everything worked fine. But, now I am stuck again and have no idea what is causing the issue. I cannot spend the time re-imaging again, so I need to find a solution ASAP.

I tried to uninstall but I cannot find an unistaller in the STS directory, start menu or Add and Remove Programs. I have tried re-installing but that doesn ot help, and I have tried upgrading to STS 2.6 but the same issue remains. Besides I would like to stick to the same version the rest of the team is using.

    Please help!

    I have a HP Compaq 6910
XP Profesional all the latest updates.
    STS 2.5 using Subversion
4 gig of RAM, although XP only reports 3

    Hey!

Can you try to start STS with the "-clean" option? If that doesn't help, can you take a look at the "configuration" folder to see if there is a log file created after you tried to launch STS and if so, attach it here?

Glad to hear that. Just don't forget to remove the -clean option again to improve startup speed again... :-)

What does the '-clean' option exactly do? I had the same problem after installing Grails 2.0.1 and '-clean-' fixed it, but it also reset all my views.

    Hi!

The "-clean" option starts Eclipse/STS with clean caches for OSGi bundles and configuration information. Sometimes it helps to repair a corrupt state in the cache or a somewhat strange state happening after additional installs. I wonder why it resets your views, they are usually stored in the workspace and should not be affected by the -clean option as far as I know, but I might be wrong here.
