I have been taking a close look at the ActiveMQ project lately. I would like to know if there are any plans in the near future to merge its 'JCA container' with spring? When that day comes, I may never use EJB again.

Absolutely. James has already gotten something working along these lines. I think the code is part in ActiveMQ, part in the Spring sandbox.
This would be a big feature for 1.1.3! We want to make sure that it's completely robust by the time it's released, so we're now thinking of releasing it in 1.3. Which will be not too long after 1.2: probably around April 2005. It is possible it could happen sooner.
