How do I configure Springsource toolkit and Maven build to work with the repository

I and new to springsource and maven , and already I have to perform maven local repository setup (SpringSource Tool Suite) so that I can execute a work project that I need to learn and understand.
I was hoping I could find help in this forum on how to setup a local repository in eclipse, if i use STS tool.
My ultimate goal after the proper setup, is to open the project to run correctly on my desktop so that I can become familiar with all the projects components .
