I would be really interested in banking one if you guys could provide a presentation or something on it afterwards. Although I am more interested in case study on investment banking environment. But than I have implemented a POS (not really but pretty close) console for a financial banking environment. And have had good experience so far. The major reason to use spring was taking advantage of persistence framework. Although we opted for straight SQL and not OR. We also had some requirements to do Synchronus messaging with third party and thats where I was stumped as I couldn't figure out a way within spring to send a message and wait to get a response back from other queue. I am not sure how many people in market really go for such architecture but with my recent two experience I have come to know people coming from mainframe background using IBM MQseries do opt for treating MQ as request and response kind of technology and fight hard for it. For all of us, MQ is an asynchronus process in nature and has no business doing synchronus calls but for them if they can do it in mainframe using cobol or something than MQ is a request/response based technology.
